Pre-departure ramble

The plan for the trip, is to spend 5 months in South Asia, getting from Mumbai to Calcutta by whatever route I find.

On Saturday however, I managed to annoy my left ankle sufficiently that it decided not to work! I took a trip to hospital for an x-ray and thankfully it isn't broken, but I have managed to damage the ligaments somehow, and am now on crutches.

Typical. But this hasn't been enough to stop the trip! It just means I will have to take a bit more time getting around and not rushing things, and it might mean my Himalayan plans are changed.

But the beginning of the trip hasn't really changed. I leave tomorrow for Mumbai, via Dubai, where I will stay for 2 nights with a old colleague from Japan. Then the first week or so will be in Mumbai, getting acclimatised and settled in somewhat. And with my ankle healed somewhat, hopefully giving the crutches to a charity to make use of.

I have managed to fit 2 t-shirts, 2 shirts, 1 pair of trousers, a down jacket, a waterproof jacket, 1 pair of swimming trunks, 5 pairs of socks, a sleeping bag, a sleeping mat, a towel, 3 pairs of boxer shorts, wash kit, camera and batteries, guide book, hat, and general stuff, into my 38 litre hiking bag (it is sold as a weekend sized bag)... so I am happy about that! The lightweight packing revolution is here!

I dont know what kind of access I will have to the internet or computers in general, so I cant promise that this or the Flickr page for photos will be updated too often, but I will try!
